Meet Our Camp Team

Sonia

Hello everyone! My name is Sonia and I'm from Staffordshire. I am a professional childcare expert and have been working with children for more than 20 years. I am also the mother of two sons, Nico and Luke.

In the year 2000 I founded the very popular and successful Tettenhall Green Kindergarten and later and I opened the TGK After School Club. I have also trained and worked as a F1 foster mother.

In the past 5 years I have worked in English holiday camps for children and teenagers in Germany. I have experience teaching English and as a tour guide.

At the camp I will be responsible for the pastoral care of the students. I have been trained in risk assessment and health and safety laws. The well-being and safety of your child is of paramount importance to me and the camp team.

In my free-time I like playing scrabble, swimming, visiting old castles and ruins, learning about English history and baking cakes. I love spending time with and taking care of children and teenagers and I'm really looking forward to the camp!

Beccy

Hi there! My name is Beccy and I’m from Newcastle upon Tyne in the North of England.

At the moment I’m studying media communications and culture at Keele University. Alongside this I have been teaching English as part of my TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) course.

I’m excited to be working as a Camp Guide at English Camp World this summer.

My hobbies include drama, photography and film. I have a great sense of humour and a very positive attitude. I like to make sure all of my students feel comfortable in class and enjoy themselves.

Why choose English Camp World?

The difference between our organisation and others can be summed up very simply in two words:

WE CARE !

We guarantee you 100% that we will take care of your child as if he or she was our own!

Allow us to introduce ourselves shortly. We are Sonia and Günther Bedson, parents of three boys, Nico, Luke and Jimmy. As parents, we know that your child is the most precious and important part of your life. We understand it is not an easy decision to send your child to a foreign country under the care of people you don’t know.

As mature parents with many years of experience in professional childcare, we promise to look after your child well. We will pay attention to your child’s needs and treat him or her with respect and kindness. Your child is safe under our supervision. We ask for your trust and promise to do everything possible to make sure your child has a rewarding, exciting and educational experience.

We are very selective about who we hire to join our team. All of our Camp Guides have experience working with children and teaching English. They undergo the rigorous DBS background checks stipulated by the British authorities and they all have first aid training. We only choose people to work with us, who share our philosophy that all children have the right to be treated fairly, equally and with respect.

During the camp, we ensure that your child’s learning experience goes beyond learning English. We take a holistic approach to our camp children’s wellbeing, learning and development. We believe that it is also our role to support in teaching “life skills”.  Some of these that we consciously “train” during our camps are:

  • greeting and saying goodbye in a polite manner

  • shaking hands

  • politeness

  • saying “please” and “thank you”

  • learning not to interrupt

  • introducing yourself to strangers

  • washing hands before mealtimes

  • table manners and eating etiquette

  • keeping the bedroom tidy

  • tidying up after activities

  • organising papers and a folder in English classes

  • getting up on time in the morning and going to bed punctually at night

  • being punctual for activities

  • staying calm in stressful situations

  • behaving in a more mature and grown up manner

  • showing respect and tolerance for each other

  • apologizing for having hurt someone or done something wrong

  • being kind and friendly

  • being socially more interactive

  • spending less time alone with electronic devices

All of our camp activities are fun and highly motivational. We encourage the children to participate in everything. Our program is packed full of highlights and every day at camp is a special day.

For us, your child will never be just a number on a list of names. We pride ourselves in knowing all of the names of our camp children very quickly and using them often.

Our approach is 100% personal and we show genuine interest in your child and his or her development. We want your child to be happy, safe and to grow.

In short: WE CARE!
